HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR HEADSHOTS

You’ve booked a photographer, chosen the style and picked a location.

Now in the run up to your session, you’ll want to consider a few things. Sure, you could just wing it on the day, but if you’re well prepared you’ll have a much more relaxed and enjoyable shoot, and the end results will be a lot better!

Follow these top tips to make sure you look your best and get the most out of your session…

1) Get a good night’s sleep the night before the shoot.

Tired and puffy eyes don’t look good on camera. Treat yourself to an early night – you’ll be glad when you see the photos.

2) Drink plenty of water and lay off the booze.

Alcohol dries out the skin and eyes, and generally makes you look not-so-great. Give it a miss for a couple of days before the shoot and look your best!

3) Think about your clothing.

Solid colours look great. Avoid any distracting patterns/graphics/logos and opt for a simple neckline or a classic collar. Make sure everything is clean and ironed and if you wear glasses give them a good clean before the shoot.

4) Plan your hair and make-up.

Bring a hairbrush/comb and some product (e.g. hairspray) to help manage stray hairs. A mirror should always be on hand for final checks but make sure you’re happy with how you look before your arrive and avoid experimenting with new styles on the day. Shiny/Sweaty skin can be a problem under the lights so a touch of concealer or foundation can help. Alternatively…

5) Consider hiring a professional hair & make-up artist.

Let someone else worry about shiny foreheads, blemishes and stray hairs. for details.

And finally…

Relax!

Not many people love having their photo taken, but it can be a fun and enjoyable experience!
